The winter break was over in a flash and 2015 has well and truly begun. If you’re planning a stay at our holiday cottages in Lake District this year, there is a huge list of great annual and one-off special events that attract thousands of visitors to Cumbria and the surrounding areas each year.
Here’s a look at some of the highlights for the coming 12 months.
Keswick Mountain Festival
One of the most anticipated annual events in The Lakelands, the Keswick Mountain Festival attracts thousands of music fans and sports fanatics each year to enjoy a wholesome weekend of good food, competitive sports events and great live music.
In 2015 the festival will run from the 14th to the 17th May, with the event hosted from the Festival Village which sits upon the picturesque shores of Lake Derwentwater.
Live demonstrations, local food stalls and a very popular zip wire last year which many thrill seekers will hope makes a return appearance.
The live music line-up is expected to be announced shortly, but the festival has a great heritage for booking great bands such as The Feeling, Stornoway and The Bad Shepherds who all headlined last year.
The Cumbrian Challenge
The increasingly popular Cumbrian Challenge is once again visiting the Lake District in 2015 on the 16th May as teams of athletes and amateurs compete in a gruelling trek around a circular Grasmere route.
The Cumbrian Challenge is a charitable sporting event that supports the Walking With The Wounded charity, with injured servicemen and women competing too. There are two routes, one that’s named Tough and covers 20km of hiking, If that sounds too easy, the Tougher route of 29km with an incline of 1,800m may be more to your taste.
Keswick Beer Festival
From live music to a charitable gruelling hike to…beer!
The Keswick Beer Festival is another fantastic mix of live music and great local ales and beers. Now into its 19th year, the festival is the largest of its kind in the North of the UK and sees over 6,000 people pass through the huge beer tent – fit with live music stage – each year to enjoy 170 real ales, bottled beers and ciders.
