Scarborough Open Air Theatre not only plays host to some of the summer’s biggest shows, but it is the largest open-air theatre in Europe, with Elton John, Britney Spears, Noel Gallagher and Lionel Richie making up just a few of the big-name acts that have come to perform here on the North Yorkshire coast.
Back in the 1930’s, the amphitheatre would draw in thousands each night, to enjoy musical and theatrical productions during the height of the summer season. The last concert held was in 1986 and since then the theatre has undergone major refurbishments and was reopened by Her Majesty the Queen back in 2010.
Below, we’ve highlighted the headline stars of Scarborough Open Air Theatre’s 2019 summer season, so you can plan your North Yorkshire getaway with a little help from Cottage Escapes.
Saturday 8 June
Haçienda Classical brings the iconic sounds and unique atmosphere of the legendary club to Scarborough with a new set for 2019, curated by legendary DJ Graeme Park, Executive Producer Peter Hook, and Musical Director Tim Crooks.
Support on the night comes from Manchester techno pioneers 808 State and a DJ set from music legend, and founding member of Joy Division and New Order, Peter Hook. This will again include orchestral renditions of the much-loved classic club records from The Haçienda’s heritage, revisiting some of the tracks that have proved popular with fans as well as bringing new additions and arrangements of seminal tracks to the set.

Friday 19 July
Fresher of face and fleeter of foot than ever, it’s hard to believe 2019 will mark four decades since a rag tag of self-proclaimed ‘hoolies and urchins’ first emerged, gloriously unreconstructed, from the back streets of Camden Town fusing reggae, punk and pop on their classic debut album One Step Beyond.
Now in the 40th year of their near-Imperial reign over popular music, 2019 sees a raft of activity, including the not-to-be-missed show at Scarborough Open Air Theatre.
From Saturday 20 July
Chart topper Lewis Capaldi – one of the most critically acclaimed artists of his generation – is bringing his unmissable live show to Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.
The 22-year-old singer songwriter has just scored his first UK Number One single with the sensational Someone You Loved and will now play the UK’s largest open-air arena on Saturday July 20.
Since bursting onto the scene in 2017, with his debut release Bruises, Lewis has sold out no fewer than three back-to-back headline tours.
Sunday 21 July
Global superstar and chart record holder Jess Glynne is returning to headline Scarborough Open Air Theatre this summer.
Jess – the only ever British female solo artist to score seven UK Number One singles – performed an unforgettable gig at the Yorkshire coast venue in 2017.
Throughout her ever-developing journey as an artist, Jess has built a huge fan-base and her live shows are magical and mesmerising events that simply cannot be missed.
