Welcome Back James’ Cottage!

Posted on 7th November 2016 by Peter Durbin

James’ Cottage is one of our popular and well-located holiday cottages in the market town of Keswick. Unfortunately, it was also unlucky enough to fall victim to the Cumbrian Floods in December 2015. The floods which were caused by Storm Desmond wreaked havoc across the Lakes and especially in areas such as Keswick.

All UK rainfall records were broken and in December 2015 a record 300mm of rain fell across the area and unfortunately many homes, including our holiday cottage, were flooded and unprecedented damage was caused.

Storm Desmond left thousands of homeowners and visitors for Cumbria and surrounding areas including north of the border in Scotland, without power or a safe place to stay. A flood at a substation in Lancaster left around 55,000 houses without power and the army had to be called in to help with evacuations across Cumbria. The damage was on a huge level which no one could have predicted and we felt it personally with the damage to our Keswick cottage.

The damage to James’ Cottage was significant and particularly devastating as our previous refurbishment had only taken place in 2012:

However, we are now extremely pleased to say it is once again ready for rental. Visitors can enjoy a fully refurbished and wonderfully cosy and relaxing holiday home in Keswick.

James’ Cottage

James’ Cottage is a picturesque Keswick cottage which has a welcoming and relaxing interior and benefits from being situated in the heart of the market town of Keswick. It is on Keswick Main Street which peaceful but also just minutes from the main shops, pubs and restaurants in the town.

The cottage has been returned to its former glory with significant refurbishments and no sign it was flooded a mere 12 months ago. We have worked to ensure the highest level of accommodation is provided at James’ Cottage after the floods, just as it offered before.
