Make the seaside your next getaway

Tucked away in the sheep-dotted hills of the North Yorkshire Moors, The Forge and neighbouring Seaview had fallen into disrepair when purchased by Cottage Escapes in 2016, but a whirlwind few years of hard work have resulted in a total transformation.

We bridge the gap between traditional and modern; purchasing and restoring beautiful period properties to their former glory, with the addition of the latest amenities and facilities and the style and privacy of English country-coastal living. Here, each has undergone extensive development and refurbishment to create a fabulous pair of luxury self-catering holiday cottages near Staithes offering every convenience for our guests.

Once one of the busiest fishing ports on the North East coast, Staithes boasts a proud maritime history and is now a well-loved base for exploring North Yorkshire’s dramatic coastline.

The traditional seaside village, with its towering cliffs and choppy sea, sits on what is known as the ‘Dinosaur Coast’, making it a powerful draw for fossil hunters, palaeontologists and geologists. The charming seaside towns of Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay, Whitby and Ravenscar are also within easy reach.

After a bracing day weaving in and out of the winding alleys, cobbled streets and whitewashed harbourside cottages, or stopping to admire the breath-taking panoramas, you will likely have worked up an appetite. So, it is heartening to know that delicious food and refreshments are in plentiful supply.

The Endeavour Restaurant are famed for their comforting seafood dishes and if you’re thirsty, pop into The Cod and Lobster or The Royal George for a quick pint – they love dogs! Throw into the mix a fusion of classic bistros, bars, farm shops and cafés and you’ll not go hungry.
